WIDE-OPEN SPACES AWAIT
This was where Courchevel’s very first mechanical ski lift was created, so that skiers finally didn’t have to take their skis off and carry them on their shoulders. It was named Sainte-Agathe and opened in 1945, 10 years after the first ski school was created with 5 instructors! Moriond is a sun-kissed resort with a certain rural charm, with wide slopes that are lined with forests on both sides. From the resort, it’s possible to explore the area on foot, go snowshoeing around La Rosière lake, do some shopping or enjoy local food and drink.
ATMOSPHERE AND ARCHITECTURE
In Moriond, there are plenty of beautiful accommodation buildings, charming chalets or small complexes set amid vegetation, down roads that follow the curves of the mountains. Around the foot of the slopes is where you’ll find the biggest concentration of shops, bars and restaurants.
SKIING
It’s possible to stay on the resort’s high-mountain slopes, without necessarily having to go any further. For beginners and skiers learning new skills, all the slopes from the Pyramides peak down to the foot of the slopes are green and blue runs. More experienced skiers can choose from the many red slopes and one black one, and some boast powder snow all season long. From the top of the resort, it’s also possible to reach Avals valley, a wonderful hidden and untouched place for ski-touring and off-piste skiing.
FOR CHILDREN
In Moriond, children and teens can have a great time on the slopes without going too far, because all the slopes come together in the area at the foot of the slopes. The highlights here are the Mickey zone for the little ones, the Snake Park, the Indians slope, Western Ski Park and Carabosse for older children. For children aged 6 months to 5 years, the Maison des Marmots provides a daycare service.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
It’s impossible to miss the Formula 1-style sledging run, which is 3 km long with 8 tunnels, and we also highly recommend the Aquamotion complex down below. Another unmissable activity is the snowshoeing outing around La Rosière lake.
